80s party
For our corporate client's 30th anniversary, the ambition was clear: think bigger, bolder, and beyond the expected. The brief was simple, '80s', but rather than defaulting to nostalgia, we went deeper into the cultural fabric of the decade. Television, music, art and design movements.
Beazley's 30th anniversary was the largest event in the company's history. 600 guests across a single evening at Tobacco Dock. The experience needed to be a journey, one guests could move through and explore.
The journey opened in an arrival lounge modelled on the glamour of 1980s hotel bars, it was elegant and unhurried. From there, guests discovered a series of designed spaces, each with its own distinct identity. A fully realised Cheers pub, with a working jukebox and the craft beers. The Only Fools' Theatre, designed to mirror the iconic shows living room, it became an intimate performance space hosting a curated 80's inspired entertainment programme including magicians, comedians, vocalists, presented by a charismatic East London host channeling Rodney Trotter. A working bowling alley and vintage arcade installation, built from scratch on site, including the legendary Zoltar fortune teller.
The programming decisions were as deliberate as the spatial ones. Each environment had its own tone, its own pace, its own audience moment. What connected them was a consistent commitment to authentic detail.
The evening ended in a "secret" Disco. Leopard print, mirrored disco balls, sequinned drapery, a party space that ran until late. It was the room guests didn't know was coming and became the one they didn't want to leave.
For this event, not everything needed to be accessible at once. The schedule was the design, reveal moments, staggered programming and curated spaces that open as the night unfolds.
